Silambarasan Rajendar (Tamil: சிலம்பரசன் தேசிங்கு ராஜேந்தர்; born February 3, 1983), also known as T. R. Silambarasan, Simbhu, or S. T. R.,[2] is a Indian film actor,director, playback singer and lyricist. He began his career by playing minor uncredited roles as a child artist in films produced by his father T. Rajendar, before essaying his first lead role inKadhal Azhivathillai (2002), under his father's direction as well. He achieved recogniton for his work in Manmadhan (2004), which was also "ghost-directed" by him [3] and became his first major commercial success. He made his full-flegded directorial debut with Vallavan (2006), while he received wide critical praise for his performance in Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) and his recent movie Vaanam (2011) has become a success. Silambarasan had gained noticeable publicity, since he had been involved in several controversies in his early years, particularly concerning his personal life.
Personal life
Silambarasan was born to director, music composer, actor, screenwriter and politician Vijaya T. Rajendar and former actress Usha Rajendar. He has a younger brother Kuralarasan Rajendar and a younger sister Ilakkiya Rajendar. He studied at Don Bosco Matriculation Hr. Sec School &Santhome higher secondary school,Chennai. He had a great passion for dance right from his school days and used to choreograph dances even back then. He then attended The Ashram School in Chennai and also completed an Audio Engineering Course.
Film career
As a child artist, Simbhu acted in nearly 19 of his father's films. A few of them are Thai Thangai Paasam, Oru Vasantha Geetham, En Thangai Kalyani, Enga Veetu Velan, Monisha En Monalisa, Oru Thayin Sabhatham, Samsara Sangeetham, Shanti Enathu Shanti, Pettredutha Pillai, and Sabash Babu. His debut in movies as a hero came in the form of Kadhal Azhivathillai, a Tamil language movie. After his second film Dum, Kuthu[7] was released. It was his first movie, which was a hit, that gave him an entry into Kollywood, which also ran for 100 days.
After Alai and Kovil, Silambarasan took an year off from acting to concentrate on the filming of Manmadhan, for which he also wrote the screenplay. He had done his first dual role in this movie. Simbhu had worked on the story line, screen play and dialogues for the movie.Jyothika Saravanan was cast as the heroine. The movie is about a serial killer of women. The music was scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. His next film, Thotti Jaya[8] stood up to the expectations at the box-office.
In 2006, Saravana was released. After Manmadhan, he paired up with Jyothika Saravanan in the film directed by K.S. Ravikumar. Silambarasan turned director for his next movie Vallavan.[9] It was released during Diwali 2006 and starred Nayantara, Reema Sen andSandhya. Vallavan opened to packed houses all over Tamil Nadu but met with mixed reviews and turned out to be a failure. His next releaseKaalai was in January 2008. Silambattam, with Sneha, released in December 2008. He became a voice actor after dubbing the Tamil dialogues for the protagonist in the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. In Goa he played a cameo role.
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, his 25th film which released on 26 February 2010, in which he was paired with Trisha Krishnan. The film is directed and written by Gautham Menon with soundtrack composed by A. R. Rahman. The film has turned out be the biggest blockbuster in his career. The film is known for changing the media image of Silambarasan from a commercial hero to a new versatile film actor. Many critics mentioned the film had Silambarasan's best performance ever.
However on 29 April 2011 his latest movie Vaanam, a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vedam, which features an ensemble cast of Bharath,Anushka Shetty, Prakash Raj, Saranya and Silambarasan himself, was released with lots of postive reviews and a grand opening.
Recently, he is busy with Podaa Podi, an Indian Tamil romance film and Vettai Mannan, which will be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. It was also announced, that he will cast in the remake of the Hindi blockbuster Dabangg titled Osthi[10], which will be released in 2012.
